Can I keep my mobile number?

In simple terms – yes. At the end of your contract period, providing your payments are up to date, you have the right to transfer your number to another network. To do this you will need a PAC number.

What is a PAC number? And how do I get one?

A PAC number is a ‘port authorisation code’ number. It is required if you wish to transfer your number to another network. You obtain your PAC number by contacting your existing billing provider. They may ask you to confirm your request for a PAC number in writing. Once issued the PAC number is valid for 28 days after which time it will lapse.

Why am I being charged for my PAC number?

There is a provision under the number porting regulations for network/service providers to make an administration charge when issuing a PAC number.

How can I avoid PAC number charges?

When you are considering a new mobile phone contract it is important to understand who will be issuing your monthly bills. The networks do not currently make a charge for PAC numbers, but service providers who issue bills on behalf of the networks, generally do make a charge. If you are going to be billed by a service provider ask in advance and check the contract small print. If in doubt, ensure that your monthly bill comes directly from your chosen network.

How do I get a PUK number?

If you enter your PIN incorrectly three times your handset will become locked and you will be asked for a PUK. This is a ‘PIN unlocking key’ and is required to re-activate you handset. To obtain a PUK you will have to contact your provider. However, if it is an o2 PUK that you need please, you can visit http://www.o2.co.uk/puk/landing enter the phone number and the PUK will be displayed immediately

How do I unlock my handset?

Some handsets are ‘locked’ to only work on a specific network. This is most common with Orange. If you have a Nokia handset that requires unlocking please contact us and we should be able to unlock it – for free! We will need to know the handset model, the network to which it is locked and the IMEI number. For other makes, you will need to contact your service provider, who may make a charge.

What is my IMEI number?

The IMEI number is the serial number of the handset. If you dial *#06# the IMEI number will be displayed on the screen.

How do I know if my phone is in contract or out of contract?

Generally, if your handset is more than 12 months old then it is probably out of contract. If in doubt please feel free to contact us and we shall endeavour to assist you.

Can I convert my Nokia 6310i car kit to accept a different Nokia phone?

A converter cradle has been developed that provides a conversion from your existing kit to a Nokia phone with a ‘pop-port’ connector. Most new Nokia phones now have the pop-port connector.

How can I check the network coverage in my area?

Initially, you can check the coverage through our home page. We also have the facility to provide customers with a ‘loan-phone’ connected to the network in question in order for you to specifically evaluate the coverage.
